52 week's of Marie's Life

52 weeks captured through photos

46. Still Life (Week 48)

“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”  ~ CS Lewis ~

A few years ago my mother was asked by a friend at her church if she would like to take art lessons.  She said “I can’t draw a line” and her friend said yes you can.  So three ladies paid another friend $15 each week to teach them how to draw.  They would take turns at each other’s house.  Each hostess was to provide wine and crackers.  Mom was 78 when she started and she enjoyed this for four years until her hands and eyes began to fail her.

This Christmas scene was her first piece.

She made Easter cards from these flowers.

The lessons varied from flowers, to birds, a simple scene and a young boy.  Here is some more of her work.

46. The Color Pink (Week 13)

Once you choose hope, anything’s possible. ” ~ Christopher Reeve ~

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Pink is the awareness color for breast cancer.  Last week I had lunch at Panera Bread and they had chosen that day to support the fight against breast cancer.  The staff wore pink shirts, there were posters with supportive quotes everywhere, swags of pink balloons, pink butter mints on the tables and this gentleman who agreed to have his picture taken for our “pink” theme.

What Cancer Cannot Do –

Cancer is so limited…

It cannot cripple love, It cannot shatter hope, It cannot corrode faith, It cannot destroy peace, It cannot kill friendship, It cannot suppress memories, It cannot silence courage, It cannot invade the soul, It cannot steal eternal life, It cannot conquer the spirit.”

Fear can keep us up all night long, but faith makes one fine pillow.  ~Philip Gulley

I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind.
Some come from ahead and some come from behind.
But I’ve bought a big bat.  I’m all ready you see.
Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!
~Dr. Seuss

51. Way Down Low (Week 7)

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.  So throw off the bowlines.  Sail away from the safe harbor.  Catch the tradewinds in your sails.  Explore.  Dream.  Discover.”  ~ Mark Twain ~

I always enjoy taking the kayaks out in Sarasota Bay and being “down low” in the water.  It’s a different perspective than being in a bigger boat.  Recently we had planned a picnic at Ken Thompson Park on City Island for our motorcycle club.  We took several kayaks for others to have the opportunity to paddle out on the bay.  As we were waiting, I took this first picture because it shows the roots of the Norfolk Pine “down low” by the waters’ edge.

Kayaking can be very peaceful and you can get really close to docks.  This view from City Island shows the Van Wezel Performing Arts building (locals have known it as the Purple Cow) across the Sarasota Bay.

But when you share the waterway, you have to be mindful of other boats.  If one comes by and throws a wake, make sure you paddle into the wave.  From this view of Sarasota, you can see one of our city’s landmarks,  the John Ringling Causeway Bridge.

3. An Expression of Love (Week 5)

Enjoy the little things in life…for one day you’ll look back and realize they were the big things ~ Robert Brault ~

Our garage is in the back of the house.  When we decide to ride our bikes, I typically go out the front and open the fence, while my husband goes to the back and  takes our motorcycles out of the garage. Greg usually turns it around for me, which, in itself,  is an expression of love for me.  Last time we took a ride though, I found he had put this hibiscus in my cup holder.  Awe – what a sweetie!

Countdown to August 1

“Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.”   ~ Henry Ford ~

The first step:  By learning how to blog, I’ve decided to “think I can.”

I’m imagining a blank white page that is just waiting for me to start my story.  I’ll be sharing this challenge with others over 52 weeks and no one else’s story will be like mine – or theirs.  We will fill our pages with our photos and share a bit of ourselves.  I’m anxious to turn that first page!

And so it begins

“Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.” ~ Coach John Wooden ~

Let me set you straight right now – I am not a professional photographer!  I love to take pictures and believe every picture tells a story – but this is all about having fun with the weekly themes.  So stroll with me as I embark on this personal journey.  Who knows – we all need a jumping off point.  This may be the beginning of something really spectacular!

“We find in life exactly what we put into it.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson ~

Welcome to my blog.  I am participating in a 52-week Challenge.  Starting August 1, I am to post a photo that is my interpretation of a word or phrase that is on a list that has been provided to our group.  Let the fun begin as I challenge myself!
