9. Complementary Colors (Week 7)

“Relax, unwind… get in a flip flop state of mind.”  Unknown

Friday night we kicked off our 3-day weekend with a little Island time.  I thought we should go out to Siesta Key for dinner before all the winter visitors returned.  As you can see, it certainly wasn’t busy.

Then it struck me that one of our themes was right under my nose – Complementary Colors!  And according to the color wheel, the chairs were paired correctly.  Do you suppose this was on purpose???

3. Backlit (Week 50)

“There’s a sunrise and a sunset every single day, and they’re absolutely free.

Don’t miss so many of them. “ ~ Jo Walton ~

My granddaughter Sara loves to go to the beach any chance she gets. She loves the sand, the waves, the sun. And when we called to see if she could join us for a late afternoon at Siesta Beach, I knew she’d say yes!  We had some fun with the sunset here.

52. Winter Landscape (Week 45)

“Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine.”  ~ Anthony J. D’Angelo ~

Hmm… Winter Landscape – how am I suppose to show a typical wintery scene when I live on the sunny gulf coast of Sarasota, Florida???  I guess I’m just going to have to use some photos from when relatives came down to get out of their winter in January/February of this year.   IMG_4258 My cousin Don and his wife Juli came down from Minnesota.  We took a drive down beautiful Casey Key and then enjoyed some sunshine at the North Jetty in Venice.  I was amazed how many folks were just sitting in chairs along the banks of the Jetty.  If we asked, I’d bet they’d say they were from Ohio, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York! IMG_4268   Juli got her toes in the sand and then we did some shelling before heading for  lunch under the tiki bar at Spanish Pointe in Osprey.  What a great way to spend the afternoon with our northern cousins. IMG_4240   Uncle Gene and his wife Edie came down for several weeks from Wisconsin.  Edie wasn’t too steady on her feet, so we went to Turtle Beach at the south end of Siesta Key to take a look, but we didn’t walk it. 4. Bright Idea (Week 39)

“Once in a while, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairy tale.” ~ Anon. ~

My nephew Steve had his wedding on Siesta Beach in June.  As the wedding procession began, one of the guests decided that we were missing music.  As the bride approached, the thoughtful guest held her I-phone up as it played the Wedding March.

22. In The Trees (Week 12)

The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago.  The second best time is now. ”   ~  Chinese Proverb  ~

I looked up and saw that money really does grow on trees!

This past weekend I invited my Mom to go to the Siesta Key Oyster Bar for lunch.  The beach atmosphere has made this a popular Sarasota indoor-outdoor establishment for locals and tourists. I had read that the current owners were offering a customized Tervis tumbler with lid for $10 to celebrate their 10 years in business – and Mom couldn’t resist a deal that celebrated our town!  As we rounded the porch and approached the entrance to the restaurant I told her that there were  thousands of dollar bills stapled to the posts, walls, and ceilings,  but then we looked up to see that the custom had crept outside and up a tree!

And in the spirit of the afternoon, we left our mark on the porch wall by our table!

Afterwards, I researched if it is illegal to write on a dollar bill and I find that there are no laws, but I found that “defacement of currency in such a way this it’s made unfit for circulation comes under the jurisdiction of the Secret Service.”  Hmmm….
