Week 3 – #A5 Seasonal

“Snowbirds” are seasonal, so I thought why not share a picture of some actual feathered friends who are just that.  The white pelicans “winter” in Florida;  they arrive in the fall and depart in the spring.  They usually stay in a geographically protected area, such as a lagoon, harbor, estuary, or mangrove islands.  This picture was taken off the Swordfish Grill in the Cortez Village.

Other places you may find them in Bradenton are on the bayside of Anna Maria Island and Robinson Preserve.  In Sarasota, you would have good luck at Myakka State Park, the Celery Fields out Palmer Road, Benderson Park, and Sarasota Bay.

25. Long Shadows (Week 16)

When life kicks you, let it kick you forward. ” ~ Kay Yow ~

A few weeks ago Sarasota welcomed 100+ teams of paddlers to the  Dragon Boat Festival. 2800 breast cancer survivors from 10 countries were part of the pink invasion on Regatta Island at Nathan Benderson Park.  This weekend event celebrates survivorship and sisterhood.

On closing day as most had left, I noticed these “long shadows” that were cast.

34. Passage Ways (Week 3)

” The path to success is to take massive, determined action” ~ Anthony Robbins ~

I stopped by the bridge on Cattleman Rd, as I was driving through Nathan Benderson Park, to take pictures of the progress of the  new Mall at University Town Center from the southern vantage point of the lake.  Walking down the embankment, I was surprised to see a winding paved walkway.  Following it, low and behold, it continues under the bridge to the other side.  I felt as if I had just uncovered a secret!  Currently the mall is a work in progress, but the neighboring park, which aspires to be a world class rowing site, is slated to be complete in 2014, as well.
