52 week's of Marie's Life

52 weeks captured through photos

5. Butterflies and/or Bees (Week 49)

One tiny butterfly shows what it means

To have enduring courage and dignity,

So that even when the wind takes it in an unknown direction,

it flies, staying strong, staying brave.

One tiny butterfly lifts itself up

With the light deep inside its soul,

Rising on wings of hope for a safe and renewing journey…

You’re like that butterfly, brave and beautiful.

I know your courageous spirit will carry you through this

just like it has carried you so many times before.

And I also know I’m here for you,

To offer friendship and comfort and support,

So you’ll soon have all the strength you need

To soar once more.

This was a card that my friend Beverly had given to her sister when they first found out that she was battling cancer. From that point on, butterflies have always been significant for her.  Her sister lost her battle and Beverly allowed me to re-print this.

25. Long Shadows (Week 16)

When life kicks you, let it kick you forward. ” ~ Kay Yow ~

A few weeks ago Sarasota welcomed 100+ teams of paddlers to the  Dragon Boat Festival. 2800 breast cancer survivors from 10 countries were part of the pink invasion on Regatta Island at Nathan Benderson Park.  This weekend event celebrates survivorship and sisterhood.

On closing day as most had left, I noticed these “long shadows” that were cast.

46. The Color Pink (Week 13)

Once you choose hope, anything’s possible. ” ~ Christopher Reeve ~

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Pink is the awareness color for breast cancer.  Last week I had lunch at Panera Bread and they had chosen that day to support the fight against breast cancer.  The staff wore pink shirts, there were posters with supportive quotes everywhere, swags of pink balloons, pink butter mints on the tables and this gentleman who agreed to have his picture taken for our “pink” theme.

What Cancer Cannot Do –

Cancer is so limited…

It cannot cripple love, It cannot shatter hope, It cannot corrode faith, It cannot destroy peace, It cannot kill friendship, It cannot suppress memories, It cannot silence courage, It cannot invade the soul, It cannot steal eternal life, It cannot conquer the spirit.”

Fear can keep us up all night long, but faith makes one fine pillow.  ~Philip Gulley

I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind.
Some come from ahead and some come from behind.
But I’ve bought a big bat.  I’m all ready you see.
Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!
~Dr. Seuss
