1. A Hot Ride (Week 47)

“Only a biker knows why a dog sticks his head out of a car window.”  ~ Author Unknown ~

Today my husband and I took a little road trip out of town and as we circled back home to Sarasota from Dunedin, we stopped at Brandon Harley.  All the hot rides got my attention.

This one said “Please sit on me” – so I did.

Aha – I discovered they make lower Harleys.  This two-tone maroon 883 Harley Sportster is just my size.  As a 5’1 lady, not many bikes are comfortable for me.  I do love the Honda I have – but if I got a Harley, think of all the shopping I could do!  Harley boots, Harley shirts, Harley Jeans, Harley bags, Harley jewelry…..

12. “Hair” It Is (Week 37)

“Does she or doesn’t she…. only her hairdresser knows for sure.”  ~ Clairol slogan ~

When our house was robbed recently and the deputies took our statements, one of them asked me my weight and height and put down “blonde” for my hair color.  Why they took our descriptions, I don’t know – but I was surprised to hear I was a blonde.  I think of myself as a brunette with highlights.  I wonder if I’d still consider myself a brunette if I dyed my hair completely blonde.

11. Golden Mean (Week 29)

“Act as if what you do makes a difference.  It does.”  William James

The Golden Mean is everywhere – but these men at lunch didn’t mind being the subjects for this theme.  Now if only this shot was taken off center, we’d have two golden means in one!

22. In The Trees (Week 12)

The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago.  The second best time is now. ”   ~  Chinese Proverb  ~

I looked up and saw that money really does grow on trees!

This past weekend I invited my Mom to go to the Siesta Key Oyster Bar for lunch.  The beach atmosphere has made this a popular Sarasota indoor-outdoor establishment for locals and tourists. I had read that the current owners were offering a customized Tervis tumbler with lid for $10 to celebrate their 10 years in business – and Mom couldn’t resist a deal that celebrated our town!  As we rounded the porch and approached the entrance to the restaurant I told her that there were  thousands of dollar bills stapled to the posts, walls, and ceilings,  but then we looked up to see that the custom had crept outside and up a tree!

And in the spirit of the afternoon, we left our mark on the porch wall by our table!

Afterwards, I researched if it is illegal to write on a dollar bill and I find that there are no laws, but I found that “defacement of currency in such a way this it’s made unfit for circulation comes under the jurisdiction of the Secret Service.”  Hmmm….

14. Here’s Your Sign (Week 10)

“Formula for success:  rise early.  work hard.  strike oil. “ ~ J. Paul Getty ~

When my son, Brian,  opened his independent insurance office in Sarasota, he wanted the name of his family owned and operated business to be a household word.  Doesn’t everyone call their Insurance Man?

He enlisted the help of his father-in-law, Tom Armstrong, to come up with his logo.  Being the creator of Marvin Comic Strip and numerous other projects, he rose to the task.

And then our good friend, John Mote, of Mote Quality Signs took care of the rest with his sandblasting, graphics, and etching.

49. Ugly (Week 2)

“Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride.”  ~ John F. Kennedy ~

On my way to work one day, I noticed an orange bicycle chained to a sign at a bus stop. My first thought was that the owner had painted their bicycle orange so that no one would steal it.  Over the course of the next few days, we were talking about it at work. Then someone mentioned seeing one dangling from a tree. Soon another appeared in front of a restaurant. We kept our eyes open and slowly discovered about a dozen of these bicycles around several stretches of University Parkway. I turned to the internet.   The internet search revealed that this was a marketing gimmick for a new gym that was yet to be revealed.  So if the object was to create a buzz, they certainly succeeded!
