34. OMG (Week 6)

“A bend in the road is not the end of the road unless you fail to make the turn.”  ~ Anonymous ~

Two-way traffic had shifted to the south side of the street as the Bee Ridge Road widening project has been underway.  The project began July 2014 and expects to be completed in 2016.  This fire hydrant on the south side is a clue (OMG) on how much dirt must be brought in to raise up this side of the road to match the nearly finished north side.  It appears that the road shift for traffic to the north side will be in September – right around the corner (pun intended!)

37. Part of a Whole (Week 5)

Apple Magic”  by Margaret Hillart

In every single apple lies

A truly magical surprise.

Instead of slicing down,

slice through

and watch the star

appear for you!

While we were at the friend’s house that I mentioned last week with the rusty train accent piece, I also spotted this large bold sculpture on the coffee table.  I knew we had “Part of a Whole” on our 52 Week Photo Challenge list, so I told him I needed to take a photo of his apple sculpture, too!

40. Rusty (Week 4)

One of the men that frequently comes to our weekly Saturday meet ups for breakfast invited a group of us back to his house this past weekend.  His waterfront home is on Bird Key.  The exterior and interior of the home, as well as most of the furnishings, are a stark white.  This rusty train was a dramatic surprise in the living room.

The Train of Life

Some folks ride the train of life
Looking out the rear,
Watching miles of life roll by,
And marking every year.
They sit in sad remembrance,
Of wasted days gone by,
And curse their life for what it was,
And hang their head and cry.
But I don’t concern myself with that,
I took a different vent,
I look forward to what life holds,
And not what has been spent.
So strap me to the engine,
As securely as I can be,
I want to be out on the front,
To see what I can see.
I want to feel the winds of change,
Blowing in my face,
I want to see what life unfolds,
As I move from place to place.
I want to see what’s coming up,
Not looking at the past,
Life’s too short for yesterdays,
It moves along too fast.
So if the ride gets bumpy,
While you are looking back,
Go up front, and you may find,
Your life has jumped the track.
It’s all right to remember,
That’s part of history,
But up front’s where it’s happening,
There’s so much mystery.
The enjoyment of living,
Is not where we have been,
It’s looking ever forward,
To another year and ten.
It’s searching all the byways,
Never should you refrain,
For if you want to live your life,
You gotta drive the train.

2. A Worm’s View (Week 3)

“Life is not about how fast you run or how high you climb, but how well you bounce.”  ~ Vivian Komori ~

I spotted this tennis ball out of play as I was driving by.  For the worm, I say “Heads up!”

39. Rainy Day (Week 1)

“It is the working man who is the happy man.  It is the idle man who is the miserable man.”   ~ Benjamin Franklin ~

I found this amusing.  As the golf carts sit idle at the country club, work goes on.  The mats from the restaurant were getting hosed off first thing this morning and the rain did not stop Pedro from working!
