35. Rocky Waterscapes (Week 1)

“If you truly love Nature, you will find beauty everywhere.”  ~ Vincent Van Gogh ~

We enjoyed the adventure of riding on the auto train from Florida to Virginia.  We saw many small towns and railroad yards, as well as numerous lakes and rivers.  I believe this river was somewhere near Richmond VA.

  1. Pretty impressive shots considering you were on a moving train! 🙂

    • True, Carolyn – that’s why I take many many shots, in hopes that at least a few will turn out! The more shots, the more chance for success, right?!! Plus I’m just using the Camera+ app on my iPhone, so I’m not as sophisticated as most. What I lack in experience, I make up for in enthusiasm!

  2. How pretty! ….like the quote … I literally just watched a programme on bps about Van Gogh.

  3. One of my dreams. My brother-in-law lives in Virginia Beach, so the AutoTrain would be an excellent way to beat driving up that awful I-95. That could very well be the James River. I think the RR runs parallel to it for some period of time. Excellent photos that could also fit #39 – Shot Through Glass 🙂

    • It’s funny because you can barely prepare for a shot, by the time you see a river or a town, you’re already past it! True about the Shot Through Glass – but I found a better opportunity in Asheville which you will see in a few posts!

  4. I love the AutoTrain, beautiful pics!

  5. Beautiful photos!

  6. We have friends in Virginia. Like George, we should hop the Auto Train. Did you take your bike on the train?

    • We did. They strap two motorcycles to a trailer and put the whole thing on the train. It was a fun experience. We had two of the 10 motorcycles that day and instead of the usual 300 automobiles, they only had a little over 200 on that run! It was costly, but saved us the ride and time. The experience was one of our splurges for vacation!

    • It was! Loved the ride and the sights. And the photo challenge gave me excuses for taking lots of photos! The dinner was superb, as well. We had a sleeping car, but would opt to pay for a larger one if we were to do it again.

  7. Well done thats hard to achieve on a moving train!
