52 week's of Marie's Life

52 weeks captured through photos

8. Distortion (Week 43)

“If you can organize your kitchen, you can organize your life.”  ~ Louis Parrish ~

Recently we had an opportunity to freshen up our kitchen.  When we were looking at backsplash ideas, I came across 12×12 sheets of this black stainless reflective mosaic tile.  The pattern was random squares of stainless mirrors.  The sheets were expensive, so we only bought 4 of them and designed the rest of the backsplash around them.  We chose simple stone slabs with gray grout for the walls.  A new stove and stainless accents completed the conversion.  Now when I’m at the sink I get a slight distorted image reflected back to me.

33. Over The Hill (Week 42)

Do not regret growing older.  It is a privilege denied to many.”  ~ Unknown ~

My mother-in-law Laura will be 93 in August and only the number of her age would make me think “over the hill” – she certainly never has acted it.  Laura has always had a youthful attitude.  In her adult years, many of her friends have been younger.  As a young lady, she played baseball in the “League of her Own” era.  She went on to outlive three husbands and raise three boys while she played in many bowling leagues – eventually gaining recognition in the Bowlers Hall of Fame.  Still cooking her own meals and living on her own, if there is a baseball game on, you will find Laura sitting in front of her 70-inch screen tv enjoying the game and playing poker on her ipad.    In my mind’s eye, she will be forever young.

7. Catch Me If You Can (Week 41)

Marriage is a mosaic you build with your spouse. Millions of tiny moments that create your love story.”  ~  Jennifer Smith ~

My husband and I were playing a friendly game of Wii Bowling tonight and we like to challenge each other.  He usually outplays me, but I give him a run for his money.  The challenge was ‘best out of three’ and at the end of the first game, I declared “catch me if you can!”

 He never had a chance!

We then proceeded to ‘three out of five’ and ‘five out of seven’, running neck and neck!

And he did catch me, indeed!

26. Light and Airy (Week 40)

“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward,

for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”   ~ Leonardo da Vinci ~

We were enjoying the sunset over the Gulf on Bradenton Beach with friends when we heard a bit of a noise in the sky.  We watched as two gas-powered parachutes were coming from the north and headed across the sunset.  Imagine the unrestricted view the occupants were having as they floated at bird speed across the sky over us.  For a moment they circled above us before they slowly continued south down our beautiful coastline.

A2. Family (Week 39)

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.”  ~ Henry David Thoreau ~

Greg is a proud grandfather as we gather as a family to celebrate the highschool graduation of Caitlin, our eldest granddaughter.  We are so excited to see where her dreams take her.
